My Creative Escape

Good Morning Everyone!

Well yesterday we had our first My Creative Escape.  It was a lot of fun.  Everyone got a lot accomplished on the projects they brought with them.

The ladies each got a goodie bag of Stampin' Up items.  We had several table gifts throughout the day as well as prize patrols - totally forgot to get pictures of those.

We had the tables set up in groups of 2.  Friends could sit with each other and chat while they crafted away.

Participants got to view some of the new catalog items as well as some classes we have held.  There was also a display of Paper Pumpkins and how you can use the contents for scrapbooking also.

We had a few make-n-takes and also shared how you can use the cards in their goodie bag to make a Project Life scrapbook page and a regular 2 page spread.

And of course the day would not be complete with a yummy breakfast and a delicious lunch!

A lot of great projects were completed and shared with each other.  There were many instances where someone needed some suggestions or advice and lots of ideas were offered.  We are already planning our next on which will be in late August/early September.  Why don't you plan on joining us!

Today I have 2 ladies coming to make a satchel and set of matching cards.  We will have lots of fun and they will learn how to make an adorable purse!

Thanks for visiting me today.  I will be back tomorrow with a new card to share with you.  Have a Sensational Sunday!

Freshly Made Throwdown

Good Morning Ladies!

After months of planning our Creative Escape is today.  We did all our shopping and set up the room yesterday.  Today we just need to have fun.  We had some table treats for the ladies as well as several prize patrols.  I am sure they will love the day and will tell all their friends what a great time they had.  Our next one will have more people as they will not want to miss out on all the fun we are having!

My card today began with the color challenge at Color Throwdown.  When I saw these colors I just had to use them on my card.

Aren't these colors gorgeous?  What a great summer card they will make.

I found a simple sketch at Freshly Made Sketches that just spoke to me.  I knew it would be perfect with these colors.

I had a piece of Whisper White that I had embossed with Fun Frames sitting on my desk.  I thought it would be fun to cut it out.  After I cut it out I mounted it on a piece of Pear Pizzazz that I rounded the corners on.  I mounted this on my card base.  I then stamped and cut out some flowers to use on the bottom.  Here is what my final creation looks like.

The Paper Plunge - one layer fancy fold

Happy Friday!

Well today Candice and I will be shopping for our food as well as setting up for tomorrow.  I am excited as I know the ladies will enjoy their day of being creative.  I will post some pictures tomorrow of the day.

The Paper Plunge challenge this week is "All the Single Ladies"!  We were challenged to make a one layer card.  I had a challenge for partial die cutting and decided to use that idea for my card this week.

I took my card base and marked the inside of the card front so it was divided in half.   I then stamped my butterflies.  I took my die and used painter's tape to hold it in place.  I then lined up half mark line I drew with the edge of the base plate having the majority of the card towards the Big Shot.  Place the top plate on and run through the Big Shot.  Since you are lining up the middle of the card with the edge of the base plate, you will only cut the half of the butterfly that is on the plate.  Repeat with the other 2 butterflies.  Use a good eraser and erase the pencil line you made.

Once you have all the butterflies half cut out, take your card to your Simply Scored and score the card stock between the butterflies.  Then score the top down to the first butterfly and the bottom up to the last butterfly.  Take the card front and fold back on top of itself allowing the cut butterflies to stay open.  Decorate the front and inside edge that shows with the ferns in the set.  Here is my creation.

Fancy Fold Number 3 - double dutch door

Hello Stampers!

I hope you will keep the families in Texas in your prayers.  They are dealing with so much rain and flooding right now.  I hope that the weather settles down soon for them.

Today I have another fancy fold card for you.  This one is called Double Dutch Door.  I was intrigued when I saw this card.  It really is not hard to do and I love the look.  I used a tutorial from Splitcoaststampers.  There is a great video that walks you through the process step by step.

I used some new colors, new stamps, and new paper.  While the background is hardly visible you can see part of it.  Here is my card.

Coloring Down the Lines Fancy Fold

Good Morning Everyone!

Well the hot weather is slowly creeping in.  Not that I like it hot my favorite temperature is around 75 degrees and no humidity.  That to me is perfect weather.  I wish there was a place that had that temperature and humidity year round.  I would be visiting there a lot.  What is your perfect weather?

Today I am continuing with my fancy fold cards.  This is a card I have been wanting to try for a while.  I found a video which I used and followed step by step.  It really is not as hard as you would think.

Since Wednesday is our Coloring Down the Line blog hop, I decided to use those colors for my fancy fold card.  Our colors today were chosen by me!

I thought this card fold would be perfect for a birthday card and what set would be perfect other than Sprinkles of Life.  The rest was just a matter of making the fold and decorating it.

Fancy Fold - Flower Shop

Hello Ladies!

I hope you had a great holiday yesterday.  I did not get my ribbon cleaned up yesterday.  I was lazy.  I did some knitting and then I had to take pictures of my cards for my blog this week.  I am not sure how the rest of the day got away from me.

Today I am meeting up with Candice to show completed projects for this weekend.  I have also pulled some things for our displays.  By the end of our meeting, we will be ready for this weekend other than the shopping for food.

While I was surfing the internet, I ran across a new fancy card fold.  I thought it would be fun to take the rest of the week and do some fancy fold cards.  I have tried to choose some that I had not done before.  The first one I ran across was this one.  I don't know what it was called but Dawn Olchefske did a video that was easy to follow.  Here is my first fancy fold card for this week.

Wild Bees

Happy Memorial Day!

Hello Ladies!

Well another productive day yesterday.  I was able to clean my room up so at least I can find my stamping table.  I also managed to make my cards for this week.  Today I want to hit the stack of ribbons that are not organized so I can take care of them.  I want to have the glass people come and measure the table top for a piece of glass so I can take off the cardboard protection.

The Facebook group I am in - Stampin' Gals Gone Wild - has a weekend sketch challenge.  I like to do it as it does give me something to think about over the weekend.  This weekend we had an interesting sketch.

I again did not want to use a flower so I decided to use a bee.  Sure wish we had some bee and dragonfly stamps!

Once I had decided on the bee I knew I gad to use flowers for the circle background as bees love flowers.  Here is my interpretation of the sketch.

Step It Up Sunday - Bees

Hello Stampers!

Well yesterday was very successful for me.  I managed to make my cards for my June Workshop, make the Make-n-Take I had to do for the Creative Escape, make the 2 page scrapbook spread for the Creative Escape, and make a challenge card for later this week.  I was glad I accomplished so much. I was even able to relax and watch TV while I knitted last night.

Today is Step it Up Sunday.  I take the card I created yesterday and step it up.  I again used the sketch at Freshly Made Sketches

To step up my card today, I kept it pretty simple.  I used a white card base and added a layer of Hello Honey which I embossed with the large polka dot embossing folder.

Simple Saturday - Bees

Happy Weekend Everyone!

What are your plans for the weekend?  Mine will be low key.  I don't have plans to go anywhere or do anything.  Now there is a possibility that could change but you never know.  I will work on planning my swaps as well as the projects for our display and make-n-take for My Creative Escape next weekend.  I am getting so excited about it.  A day to myself to do what I want.  Candice and I are planning on working on an upcoming class.  It will be fun to design it and get it ready to go.

Simple Saturday is one of my favorite days to post.  I love doing simple cards for the fun of it and see if I can pull it off.  Today is one of those days that I am not sure I achieved it.  I have to admit the stepped up version is better to me.

I began with the sketch challenge at Freshly Made Sketches

I thought this would be a simple one to play with.  I was going about my daily chores and thinking about what I could do with it.  (Do any of you do that?  I sometimes think about a sketch and what I can do for a few hours while I do my chores.)  I also did not want to use a butterfly or flower so I was not sure what I was going to do.  I thought it would be fun to use a piece of vellum and emboss it.  My initial thought was to emboss with the Wildflower Meadow folder but when I looked at it, it was not going to work for what I had in mind.  While looking through my embossing folders I ran across the hexagon folder and it hit me to emboss using that folder and create a bee.

I set about finding a punch art bee as we don't have a bee stamp - we had one but it retired.  I found a cute one on Pinterest so I created it.  When I laid it on the card, it was too small so I made a second one.  I added the embossed vellum using dimensionals.  You could see the dimensionals so I had to make a second bee to cover the dimensionals.  When I had all the elements added it was missing something.  I decided to stamp and cut out a flower.  Here is my interpretation of the sketch.

So what do you think of my card today?  To me it seems to be missing something.  What do you think?

Patriotic Shimmers

Hello Stampers!

Well the dentist went well.  I have no cavities again.  I am always glad to hear that when I go.  The older you get the more teeth issues can have so I always am afraid I will need a crown or root canal.  So for the next 6 months things are fine.

The Paper Plunge is celebrating Memorial Day.  Our challenge this week is to create a patriotic project.  I borrowed a set from my friend that I knew I could use for this card.  I had an idea in my mind that I wanted to use.  After I did the Shimmer Block technique a few days ago I decided I wanted to see if I could use it on my card today.  I wanted to see if I could create a flag background using the technique.  I inked up my block and spritzed it.  I then laid my paper onto the block and pressed down.  I lifted the paper and was quite surprised.  My image was backwards!  I totally forgot that you have to reverse the image when you color it.  I also realized that my colors kinda bled so instead of a white background I had a pink one.  I cleaned my block and recolored the blue square on the right hand side this time.  Then I added my red lines.  I spritzed it with the shimmer spray and set my paper on top.  This time I did not press but lifted the paper off the block.  Much better.  I had one spot where the ink did not transfer to the paper.  So I took my block and turned it over and stamped it on the paper.  The ink transferred this time.  I had a great flag that was sparkly.  Here is my creation.

Another New Technique

Hello Ladies!

Well Candice and I got all the projects we wanted to get done completed.  We have a few things left to do that we will do one day next week and then we are done.  On Friday we will do the shopping and hopefully we will be able to set up for Saturday.  I am looking forward to Saturday.

The SUDSOL group had another technique challenge this week.  The other technique that I wanted to give a try was Re-inkers and Acrylic block watercolors.  Basically you take the large acrylic block and spritz it with water.  Then you take re-inkers and drop drips randomly around the block.  You then take watercolor paper and place it on top of the block.  Take the paper off and you have a background.  You can repeat this up to 3 times and still get a background.

Since I wanted to use this technique, I decided to see if I could find a color challenge for my colors.  I found one that I liked the colors they wanted you to use at Colour Me...!  This week they wanted you to Colour Me... subtles!

Some things I learned ~ The first time I did it I moved the paper around.  While this creates a beautiful background it is not the look you should achieve.  Use only a few drops of each color.  The first time I used a lot of drops and I did not have much white space.  I also found the more water on the block the better the colors bled into the paper.

Here are pictures of the papers I created.

Here is the card I created using one of the papers.

I could not think of what to use to decorate the inside of my card or my envelope.  I remembered the Work of Art stamp set.  I wondered how I could get a similar watercolor look as the background.  I then thought about what I might do to get the look.  I decided to try the same technique as was used for the background.  I think I used too many drops of re-inker but it will be something I try at a later date.

Thanks for visiting me today.  I enjoyed this technique and made several other papers that I will use in the next few weeks to create some cards.  Have a Great Day!

Coloring Down the Lines - Shimmer Blocks

Good Morning Everyone!

Well Candice and I will be putting together goodie bags and making some surprises for the ladies coming to the My Creative Escape.  I am so excited about this event.  Our plans are coming to a close and the event next weekend will be so much fun for the attendees.  I will take some pictures to post after the event.

Our Coloring Down the Lines blog hop is today.  Amanda found a great fun color combo for us this week.

Stampin' Up color matches

Aren't these colors fun?  They just scream party.  I am a member of a demo group and this week they had 2 fun challenges.  One of the challenges is called Shimmer Blocks.  The description sounded like so much fun that I had to give it a try.  You take your marker and ink up your acrylic block.  In my case I used Crushed Curry, Melon Mambo, and Tangelo Twist.  I colored my block using my markers in a block pattern.  After I had my block colored I spritzed it with Shimmer Spray.  You then lay your card stock on top and run your fingers over it to press it onto the block.  Then lift your paper off and set it aside to dry.  Since the Shimmer Spray has alcohol in it, it dries fairly quickly.  Once it is dry you can then stamp on it and make your card.  I did learn a few things along the way.  When you are spraying your block you want to make sure you have enough Shimmer Spray so that your colors are smooth and not splotching.  This helps the colors to blend better.  Here is my creation using the colors for this week's hop and the technique.

Hand Stamped Sentiments - Patriotic Thanks

Hello Ladies!

Yesterday was a quiet day for me.  I was able to work on my cards for my Retirement Village ladies today.  I also finished up the last of my design team commitment for Stamp Academy.  Now I just need to write up the tutorial for the cards for Sending Kisses.  I am hoping to work on that this afternoon as I have to work for the college this evening.

The Hand Stamped Sentiments challenge is today.  We have a sketch challenge this time.

I wasn't sure what I was going to do for this sketch.  I did not want to use a flower for that element so I decided to look and see what I could use instead.  I realized the star framelits would be work.  After that I had to decide what direction to take with my card.  I thought it would be perfect to use a patriotic theme.  Once I had that decided the rest just fell into place.  I used patterned paper for the star and the rectangles.  I cut the circle out of card stock and embossed "Thank" in gold.  I then cut out the word "you" in white.  All I had to do was assemble it.  Here is what I created using this sketch.

Technostamper - Moon Lake

Happy Monday Ladies!

Wow this past weekend was very busy!  I am tired so I hope this week is a little quieter.  I don't have any thing scheduled for today.  Tomorrow I have the Retirement Village Ladies in the morning and in the late afternoon I have to work an Open House in Calvert County.  I am hoping to be able to catch up on some things this week.

Today is the sketch challenge at Technostamper.  Mary Jo always does a great job of coming up with different sketches.  This week was no different.

I had a request for some Father's Day cards so I thought I would use this sketch for one of the cards.  The lady wanted a card with the Moon Lake set and specifically the boat image.  I decided to try my hand at watercoloring.  I stamped the image on watercolor paper with Staz-on ink.  I then used a tutorial by Julia Davison to do the coloring.  After it was colored I mounted it on black and to address the vertical strip I decided to use the Hardwood background.  Here is what I came up with for the sketch.

Step It Up Sunday - Striking Mambo II

Good Morning Everyone!

Well the yard sale was somewhat successful.  I sold some things but I still have a lot left.  I am going to make a list by price and sell them as I really want to get them out of my house.  A lot of my stuff is several years old.  I will list them in several places to see if I can sell it.

Today is Step It Up Sunday.  Yesterday I shared with you a simple card.  I am taking that card and stepping it up today.  I again used the Weekend Sketch Challenge at Stampin' Gals Gone Wild a Facebook group I am in.

Stampin' Gals Gone Wild Weekend Challenge - May 15, 2015 - join us at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com

I also used the Colour Me... Striking challenge.

I thought about what I could do to step up my card.  I knew I could use a white card base and add a melon layer.  I wanted to do some other things so I decided to emboss the melon layer as well as the pear strip.  I knew I could use the large polka dot embossing folder for the melon layer.  I then wanted to add embossing to pear strip so I pulled out my chevron embossing folder for it.  When it was finished it needed some bling to me so I added some sequins.  Here is my stepped up version.
