Not what I had pictured

Have you ever had an idea for a card and basically had a picture of what it should look like in your head. Well today's card is one of those. I started out with an idea of what my card should look like when it was completed but the final product is not anything like I pictured.

I started with Gretchen's Weekend Sketch challenge. I had wanted to use the technique where you stamp on black with craft white ink. You let it dry (or use a heat tool) and then using pencils color the stamped image. I chose the Upsy Daisy stamp set as I thought it would be a good one. I colored it in with the Pure Color Pencils (retired). The finished product just didn't pop like I wanted it to. Here is the sketch and my creation.

For those who are wondering, my papillon had knee surgery yesterday. I get to pick her up this afternoon. I am hoping this takes care of the problem as she loves to run and zoom and she hasn't been able to do that.

As I finished this post I realized that the cards I have seen that I liked all used a white gel pen to highlight the image. I will do that tomorrow and take another photo and post so you can see the difference. Thanks for looking and have a Wonderful Wednesday!

Simple Sympathy

As you read this I am on my way to the Vet Surgeon. My papillon has knee problems and one of her knees keeps popping out and she won't put weight on it. Normally they just pop right back in but one of hers doesn't go back in easily and is starting to cause her some discomfort so we are going to check it out and see if she needs surgery. Wish me luck!

A quick post to share my card since I have to be out of here early. I combined 3 challenges on this card. I used the color challenge from Just Add Ink blog. The colors were Blush Blossom, Cameo Coral, Close to Cocoa, and Kraft. I used the Kraft as my card base. I then used the sketch challenge from the Stamping 411 blog. The final challenge was to create a sympathy card and it was listed on the Late Night Stampers yahoo group blog. Here is the sketch and my creation.

Great Sketch for a Large Stamp

Tracy at Eat Sleep Stamp said she kept the sketch simple this week. I decided to keep my card simple also. I used the colors Bashful Blue, Night of Navy, and Real Red from the Cards & Things blog in creating my card. I used some designer series paper and paired it with the large flower image from the Petal Pizzazz set. I often don't use my larger images as I'm not always sure how to work them in a card. This sketch was perfect for it. I added lots of ribbon and I love how it turned out. Here is the sketch and my creation.

Pink Celery Cocoa Friendship

Wow the wind last night was unbelievable. I was wondering if the gusts were going to take my furniture of the back deck. Today we have rain so I will be working on more cards.

My card today was made for a color challenge at Diva Coffee Break Designs blog. The colors were Certainly Celery, Close to Cocoa, and Pretty in Pink. I wanted to try embossing only a portion of the card as I have seen lots of cards with this technique so I decided to give it a try on this card. I used my Perfect Details embossing folder to emboss the bottom portion of the card. It was then just a matter of stamping and putting the pieces together. Here is my creation.

Another Workshop Card

I needed another workshop card and decided to use a color and sketch challenge for my creation. This one also can be used as a Mother's Day card or an all occasion card.

I used the color challenge from the Stampin' B's Design Team blog. Their challenge was to use purple, green, and yellow. I chose Almost Amethyst, Old Olive, and So Saffron. I found a good sketch at the Belli Challenge blog. There was a twist with the sketch. You had to also use a clip. I used to clip to attach my sentiment. Here is the sketch and my creation.

A few congratulations cards

Good Afternoon!

I hope you are having a great day!

I needed some Congratulations cards so I went about creating them today. My son in law just got assigned to Marine 1. This is an application process and he was chosen so I wanted to send him a card telling him how proud I was of him. The best part is he and my daughter will be coming back home after being gone about 7 years. I wanted to use the colors of the marine uniform and so I went with Creamy Caramel as the shirt for the card base. The pants are blue with a red strip so I put a strip of Night of Navy with a Real Red strip down the side. I then had to stamp the Congratulations star and mount it. I added the helicopter eyelet at the top and one on the inside. Here is my creation.

Pink Thoughts

Happy Friday Everyone!

I hope you have some plans to stamp today. It is supposed to rain here today so I am going to try and finish some Mother's Day cards for my Etsy shop.

Thought I would share this card I made last night. I used the color challenge from the Color Dare blog. The colors were Basic Black, Green Galore, and Pretty in Pink. I wanted to do something a little different and not use flowers as I have used them a lot lately and I think I achieved that with today's card. I thought pink with black paisley would make a good background. I then wanted a strip down the side so I pulled out my Boho Blossoms and used the flowers to create my own paper. I colored the leaves with the green and the flowers with the pink. Then I traced the swirly stems with my glitter pen. Once I got the card together I thought it would be too much to add a stamped image so I went with a sentiment. I like how this turned out and other than the flower background it was a quick easy card. Here is my creation.

March ATC

I am back with my post I told you about.

I am in a monthly ATC swap and thought I would share it with you. As it turns out it fits into 2 challenges both for anything but a card. The first blog that had this challenge was the Late Night Stampers yahoo group. If you are not familiar with this group you need to check them out. You do not have to be a demo to join them. There is a lot of sharing of cards/projects and if you have a question they can help. It promotes the use of Stampin' Up so if you are looking for a card idea this is the place to go.

This also fits the Anything But a Card challenge at Pals Paper Arts. This is a great challenge site as they really mix up the kinds of challenges they post. Here is my ATC creation. I made this like a criss-cross card. I used glitter pen on the hedgehog to make it sparkly.

Elegant With Love

I am still working on my cards for my workshop. I saw a sketch challenge on the Hand Stamped Sentiments blog that I thought would be a good one to use. I combined it with the color challenge at Picture Perfect Creations blog. The chosen colors were

Pink & Red Wishes

It is a beautiful day outside. I just got back from walking my puppy and wanted to get this posted before I start doing my chores.

I need to make my cards for my workshop next week so I decided to use some sketches for a couple of the cards. I thought we would do Mother's Day cards but not everyone needs one and some may need more than one. I decided to design these cards so that my ladies could choose to use the Mother's Day stamp or another one. Since I do not need a card, my samples will show the card with the alternate sentiment. The first one uses the sketch form Tracy's Eat Sleep Stamp blog. I combined it with some of the Sending Love DS paper I had left. This paper retires at the end of the month so if you want some get it now. Here is the sketch and my creation.

Lacey Yellow and Black Daisies

Yeah, it's hump day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love, love, love today's card. I love daisies and I used the flower from Fifth Avenue Floral that looks like a daisy to make this card. The picture doesn't show it but it is very sparkly as I used my clear Stardust gel pen on the flower. There was a challenge at the Caardvarks blog to use lace on your card. I had ordered a couple of different kinds of lace and this one was perfect for this card. I combined it with the sketch challenge at the Stamping 411 blog. Here is the sketch and my creation.

Sweet Pea Striped Happy Moments

Good Monday Morning to you!

I had a very productive day yesterday. I was able to make 4 cards for my blog and 4 Mother's Day cards for my Etsy shop. I will be posting the blog cards throughout the next few days. I will not put my Etsy shop cards in my shop until I finish a few more. That should happen within this week.

Today's card uses a sketch challenge from the Card Scraps blog. It was a simple sketch but one that you could do a lot with. I used my Sale-a-bration set Happy Moments which I had not used yet. I added in some Sweet Pea designer series paper. Here is the sketch and my creation.

Tried a New Technique

There was a challenge at the Hand Stamped Sentiments blog which was a technique challenge. You were to use the Faux Metal technique. Basically you put Versmark on your cardstock and add either gold or silver embossing powder, heat your paper and while the melted powder is still hot, you pour on more embossing powder and heat again. You do this at least 3 times and when you have heated your last layer you ink your stamp with Versamark and press it in the hot melted powder. Leave your stamp there for several seconds and when you remove it you get your image in the silver or gold and it looks like metal.

I thought it would fun to try it with a butterfly and make it look like a charm. I chose the butterfly since I was doing this for my daughter and she loves butterflies. I also chose to use purple as this is her current favorite color. I must say this technique was a little difficult for me (my first try was a mess). There must be some hint that I am missing. The card turned out okay but not sure I will do this again. Maybe it would be better with a square or circle shaped image. Here is my creation.

A surprising color combination

Yeah, it's Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you all have great plans for the weekend? Our weather is supposed to be great. The weatherman says it will hit 70 this afternoon. I hope so as I have to cut my grass - can you believe I am starting that already!

Today's card was created for 2 challenges. The color challenge at the Colour Q blog had you using Apricot Appeal, Baja Breeze, Cameo Coral, Rich Razzleberry, and white. I had no problem with the colors until the Rick Razzleberry showed up. Maybe it is my pad but mine seems to be so harsh. When the color first came out I thought it was a pretty berry color. Now at times it almost appears dark brown. Is anybody else having this problem (could be me in my old age, hahaha)? I combined the color with the sketch challenge at the Cards & Things blog.

I hadn't used my Vintage Vogue set in a while so I decided it would be a good one since it has lots of coordinating pieces and there were quite a few colors in the color challenge. The Baja Breeze was one of last years In Colors and retired. After using it on this card I realize how much I missed this pretty blue. Here is the sketch and my creation.

Some Summer Colors

Well we are almost at the end of our week. The weather has been gorgeous here the past few days and it is supposed to continue with Friday and Saturday being absolutely beautiful. I hope you have some plans to get outside and enjoy it.

Today's card was rather interesting to create. I used the color challenge from the Our Creative Corner blog. The colors were green, pink, yellow, and brown. I chose to use Chocolate Chip, Garden Green, Pink Passion, and Summer Sun. I then chose my sketch from the challenge on the Card Positioning System blog.

I thought it would be fairly easy to pull this together but I wasn't sure how it would look until it was finished. I chose to use the Herb Expressions set and I used markers to color the image. I stamped it in the middle and then stamped it again to the right. I colored the image again and stamped it on scrap paper then stamped it to the left of the main image. That made my main image panel that I layered with cardstock of the same colors. I pulled out some of my Chocolate Chip DS paper and layered it on the cardstock to create my bottom layer.

Next I had to create the sentiment layer for the bottom. I pulled out my tag punch (which I just found out is retired, bummer) and then I remembered seeing a card where they had used the vintage label to create a background and decided to use it for the tag punch. I stamped the sentiment in the center and then used the slit punch to create a ribbon slot at each end. I sponged the edges with Chocolate Chip. Now all I had to do was put the card together.
