More Operation Write Home Cards

The weather here has been cloudy and chilly with showers. Today it is not supposed to get above 50. Wow I am not used to this (not to mention I am not ready for this chilly yet!). It has made it difficult to get pictures with the clouds. I had a brief period where the sun was out so I quickly snapped today's pictures. These are more cards I made for the Operation Write Home organization. I have one more card to make today then I have to put them in the mail so they can get to the organization by Saturday. Since I am up at my daughters I may not be able to give all the details as I stamped and cut these before I left last week. The first 2 cards are a case from Dawn Easton. I did not have the set she used so I used an old retired set. The second card is a case from Natasha Trupp.

Another workshop card

Sorry I didn't get this posted sooner. I have been busy working on cards so I will have some to post the next few days. I wanted to share another October workshop card with you today. This is a card I cased from Andrea Walford. I changed a few things but basically used the same layout and paper. This was a quick and easy card to make.

Going to the Apple Festival

I was hoping to have a card posted for yesterday but didn't get one done before I left for New York to spend some time with my daughter. We are headed to the apple festival today. This is the cutest card!

Wait until you see the card today! I have to admit this is not my idea. I cased this idea from Gretchen Barron. She has posted on her blog a set of favor bags that are just too cute. I loved Dracula so I decided to make him as a card for my October workshop. Here is my card based on Gretchen's favor bags.

Neon Green and Black

Here is another card I created on Sunday. I used the color challenge at the Colour Create blog. You were to use neon green and black. While I'm not sure if this is neon or not, it was the brightest green I had. When I saw it was green and black I immediately thought of Frankenstein so I decided to go with the Halloween theme and add another card to my stash. Here is my creation.

Splitcoast Tea Party

I spent a lot of time in my craft room on Sunday. I am going to visit my daughter next weekend and we are planning on doing some apple festivals. I wanted to take some cards with me to put together for Thanksgiving to send to Operation Write Home (formerly Cards for Heros) and Chris (my son-in-law). So I cut the paper, stamped the pieces, and picked out sentiments and ribbon to take with me and I will put them together during the day while my daughter is working. I can then mail them out from up there so they get them in time.

I also made 2 cards one for today and one for later this week. Today's card uses the sketch from Splitcoast Stampers for last Wednesday. I wanted to make a card where the sentiment was the main focus of the card rather than an image. I combined it with the Tea Party DS paper. Here is the sketch and my creation.

Pretty Suede Creation

Editted to add - I had this post ready to go on Saturday, but could not get my image to go in. I was able to add the image last night so I could post it today.

Did you miss me yesterday? I took Bijou to the vets to get spayed on Thursday and when I got home I took advantage of having some free time. I cut the grass (riding and push), cleaned my tub and shower, vacummed my house, did some laundry, walked with a friend, and went out to dinner. By the time I got home I was too tired to stamp. I had to pick her up today and after a few hours of cuddling her I headed to the craft room and in between her demands for my attention I was able to create today's card.


I used the color challenge from Splitcoast. We were to use Pretty in Pink, Soft Suede, and Whisper White. These were great colors to work with. I borrowed a set from a friend and since I hadn't used it I decided to use it for this card. Here is my creation.

Fall Crayon Resist

Well the weekend is almost here! Does everyone have some great plans for the weekend? I will be stamping up a storm as I need to make Thanksgiving cards to send to my son-in-law's unit as well as Operation Write Home (formerly Cards for Heros). You will be glad to know that I sent my son-in-law 61 cards (most of them were Halloween cards) and 56 cards to Operation Write Home (again most of them were Halloween cards). There is a short turn around before the Thanksgiving cards need to be postmarked so I will be looking for some quick and simple cards (anyone have any good ideas?). I want to send a bunch again to both parties.

After I boxed up the cards yesterday so I could mail them out today I was able to create today's card. I used 2 challenges again for this card. I used the sketch from the Sketch Saturday blog. I combined it with the fall/autumn challenge on the Our Creative Corner blog. I decided to use a technique that I had not used in about 2 years. I used the Crayon Resist technique. I love this technique for fall cards. I will have to remember to try it with snowflakes in the winter as I think it could be very pretty also. Here is the sketch and my creation.

The Last Days of Summer

I think we are seeing the final days of summer here in Maryland. The weather the past 2 days has been in the low 80's but a change is headed our way. It is supposed to turn cooler and a chance of rain every day. We typically have an Indian Summer in October but our weather this year has been wacky so we'll see.

With the changes in the demonstrator agreement, I am searching out some new blogs that focus mainly on Stampin' Up supplies. I am hoping that by looking at blogs that focus mainly on Stampin' Up images it will help me to notice other stamps that will give me more variety in the cards I post. I have found several that I really like and one of them does challenges so I decided to use it for today's card.

My card today fits into 2 challenges. I used Tracy's sketch from the Eat Sleep Stamp blog. I paired it up with the inspiration challenge from the new blog Inkspirations. I used the colors from the inspiration challenge which were Pacific Point, Tempting Turquoise, and YoYo Yellow. Sometimes when I am not sure how to add some "pop" to a card I will use the colors from the card and sponge a rainbow effect around the edge. I like this look especially when your card is only a few layers. Here is the sketch, inspiration, and my creation.

Great Color Combination

I hope everyone is having a great day! I think our nice days are numbered and we are going to have cooler temperatures and cloudy/rainy days. It is already getting dark earlier. Yuck! Anyone else dislike the shorter days? It is hard to get used to 5:00 being dark.

I am sure you are aware of the new Stampin' Up demonstrator agreement where we are not allowed to acknowledge stamps from other companies. There have been a number of blogs I read where the ladies are not signing the agreement and will discontinue their demonstratorship after this month. I debated long and hard about signing and spent a lot of time last week thinking about my blog. I thought about continuing to make my cards with other images and not listing the company. Unfortunately I do not think that copyright laws will allow that. I love Stampin' Up cardstock and ink, but I have to admit I get tired of always doing cards with flowers. I love the cute kitty, moose, hedgehog, and other animal stamps that are available from other companies. Stampin' Up does not currently have cute animal stamps. I am not fond of their animal stamps in the current catalog. I am debating about continuing to post as often as I do but using some of the retired sets once in a while to give me a break from the flowers. Do you have any thoughts?

Okay enough chatting! Today's card is for the Color Dare blog. You were to use Old Olive, Pale Plum, Rich Razzleberry, and Very Vanilla. These are the colors in the Cottage Wall DS paper and I love this paper and color combination. It was fun to create my card without a sketch to follow. I used one of my new sets which caught my eye when the catalog came out. I love this card, what do you think about it? Here is my creation.

Back to School Challenge

The Creative Belli blog had a Back to School challenge. You had to use apples and/or pencils and create a project with a back to school theme. A Challenge

Okay I was able to make a couple of cards yesterday. It felt good to create and not mass produce. I will be doing some more mass producing but later in the week.

Today's card used the sketch from the Caardvarks blog along with the color challenge from the Color Throwdown blog. Caardvarks had 3 sketches to choose from. I chose to use sketch 2. The required colors to use were Close to Cocoa, Pumpkin Pie, and Ruby Red. The pumpkin pie was a challenge as I didn't have patterned paper that had that color in it. I was able to incorporate it though. Here is the sketch and my creation.

Good Morning!

Have you wondered why I have been missing in action lately? Well I have been busy mass producing Halloween cards. I wanted to send some to the Cards for Heros group but I also have adopted my son-in-laws unit in Afghanistan. He said there are about 20 guys in his unit and they have a 2 mile walk to get cards so I told him I would make cards and send to him and he could put them in his work place and the guys and gals could take them as needed. I was able to make 50 cards in the last 4 days (40 of which are Halloween cards). Here is the picture.

I am planning on doing some challenges after my workshop this morning so I will have some new creations for you to look at. Sorry about the lack of posts but thanks for hanging with me. Thanks for looking and have a Super Saturday!

Jess' Birthday Card

My First Christmas Card

Stampin' Up has revised their policy about being on design teams and listing websites for supplies from a competitive company. Today's card is my first Christmas card of the season. I was looking at the color challenges that I like to participate in and saw that the Color Throwdown blog challenged you to use Always Artichoke, Chocolate Chip, and Regal Rose. I looked through my images from my swap and ran across this Santa. I thought he would be cute done up in nontraditional Christmas colors. When I had him colored in I saw the perfect sketch on the Card Positioning Systems blog. It was just a matter of putting the card together. I used some retired Stampin' Up DS paper that I thought fit the colors. Here is the sketch and my creation.

I participated in an image exchange last year. I pulled them out to use on a few cards. The first card I created used the color challenge from the Color Dare blog. You were to use Bermuda Bay, Cameo Coral, and So Saffron. I combined it with the sketch challege from Tracy's Eat Sleep Stamp blog. I had some fun playing with the horizontal image. I used Bermuda Bay and a 3/4" and 1" circle punch to create scallopsthat look like waves. I then sponged on some Whisper White Craft ink to mimic the foam. I like the look of the waves with this technique. I think the card is very summery. What do you think? Here is the sketch and my creation.

Prayer Request Update

I wanted to give you an update on the prayer request I made. The young man started opening and closing his mouth on command several days ago. They were wondering if it was fluke but he is still doing it and it seems to be more controlled now. Yesterday when my daughter went to see him she wondered if he could do anything else. She asked him to smile for her and guess what he did it. Now it is not a great smile but at this point in time it is the best smile he can do. Obviously your prayers are working please continue to pray for him and his family so that more progress can be seen!

I am headed out the door for an appointment. I made a card last night that I need to photograph and post later today so check back!

Polka Dot Explosion

The inspiration for this card came from a scalloped scrap that I had punched the center out of. I saw the sketch at Card Patterns and thought I could use the scrap for the circular element in the lower right corner. I then thought it would be fun to use the color challenge at Caardvarks of black, white, and hot pink. When I thought of the colors and the scrap I immediately thought of polka dots and the rest was easy.

I used the Cuttlebug folder and embossed the white panel. I then used my brayer to ink up the dots. The rest was just a matter of punching the elements and putting the card together. Here is the sketch and my creation.

Another Halloween Card

I decided to play some more with my Halloween images that I have stamped and colored with my markers. While checking out my sketch and color blogs, I saw that the Creative Belli blog had a challenge to use water based markers. Since I had colored a bunch of my stamped images with markers, this card fit the requirements.

This was a quick fun card to make. I am trying to create quick cards that I can mass produce to send to my son-in-law for his unit as well as the Cards for Heros group. This is one I can make a bunch of and split between the 2 groups. Here is my creation.
